It seems only yesterday Matt Smith took up the role of the Time Lord in Doctor Who, but now reports have come out that he is ready to quit as early as next year.The reason? He wants to crack Hollywood - the ambition that seems to get to the best and the worst of TV actors.
Matt has apparently told friends he wants to go after just two series of the BBC hit sci-fi show so he can work on films.
The actor who is playing the eleventh Time Lord is currently filming this year's Christmas special with Karen Gillan, who plays his sidekick Any Pond, and opera star Katherine Jenkins.
A friend told The Sun: "Matt plans to quit after the next series.
"He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons."
If these reports are true fans would no doubt be disappointed as he's made a promising start as David Tennant's successor and BBC bosses had also hoped he would stay longer than the three series Tennant did.
The BBC said: "Matt is filming the Christmas special and then goes on to film the second series.
"Beyond that, the BBC and Matt won't speculate on things."
Aside to Doctor Who Smith has just filmed a BBC2 drama about gay writer Christopher Isherwood, due to air this year.

Well what a surprise - not.Let him go - he's rubbish.Another actor who thinks he's above everyone else.Hope he flops in Hollywood too

Personally I was willing to give him a try but only just started getting used to him being the doctor. I wonder if this was his plan all along? Get seen here & in America then go on to hollywood? Lets face it, he is to young & unless his character evolves I think he is second worse to Sylvestor McCoy.

I'm not surprised!I used to loved Dr Who but now after watching some of the 'new' series (I watched about 3),Iturned off as Matt Smith is not a patch on David T. Let Matt Smith go, he obviously is using Dr Who to Further his career let someone play the part who really wants it!!!

Let him go. Have stopped watching Dr Who since he took over. It's just cops and robbers stuff now; it's lost it's depth since Russell T left the writers desk.

Agree with others - let him go. Never thought he was that good anyway. Someone older is needed. Bring back David Tennent I say.

Sorry have not taken to Matt as Dr. Who. Not sure what it is, but he is not the right actor for the part. Wish him well in Hollywood.
